Help Teemo on his adventure and find missing scrolls.

I have partnered with Unit9 to create this AR effect for League of Legends: Wild Rift This AR effect is available on Instagram.

We have used Riot Games League of Legends assets and the power of Facebook’s Spark AR to allow gamers to bring Teemo to live in their own environment. Users can use both selfie and back camera to play with different filters. In the selfie camera, the user gets Teemo’s hat on their head and using facial gestures they can interact with it. But the star of this AR filter is Teemo himself, who appears in back camera filter. Using plane tracker user can point a place where the portal appears. Teemo jumps out from the portal and finds himself surrounded by mushrooms. User can tap on them to interact with them and reveal more about Teemo’s adventures.

The effect is promoted as an online treasure hunt. On Wild Rift’s Facebook, Twitter and website gamers can find 3 parts of a map. Connected all parts together reveal a QRcode. Scanning code opens the user’s Instagram and loads the filter.

For the Spooky season 2020 I have created 6 Halloween AR looks for Superdrug. AR makeups and beauty filters are the biggest trends on Instagram competing for the number one with colour grading and “what are you” quizzes. But creating AR makeup is not that easy and it pretty much follows the same pattern of adding different layers of colours on the top of each other as regular makeup. The difference is with augmented reality you can take makeup to the next level by playing with textures, light and animation. All looks were based on Superdrug Halloween campaign you can see on their social channels.

I was impatiently waiting for this Spark AR feature since it was announced on F8 in 2019. After a year we finally got it. Audio Reaction. You can make Instagram filters react to the frequency and energy (speed) of a song.

There are 3 different ways to do it. You can embed your own track in a filter, add Instagram Music or use the user's mic as an input. For this effect I have chosen mic, as IG Music is not available worldwide yet. The user’s journey may change soon but for now to use it, you need to press and hold the record button while playing music around you to see effect working.

This is my first audio reactive Instagram filter, which obviously had to be an equalizer. You can choose between 5 different styles of glasses or choose shuffle mode. This filter is featured on Spark AR blog

I really like desaturation and using camera extraction in the previous effect “Egocentrism”, so I decided to simplify it, which hopefully will give a user more chance to use it in an interesting way.

The “Black Neon” is at the moment my most popular effect, so I have decided to create a follow-up.

With this filter, I wanted to show that it can be used for more than just a selfie. You can do interesting things with the main camera as well. And since I live in Wapping very close to Tower Bridge I decided why not to use the iconic landmark as a model and I do like the effect.

I decided to learn a bit of 3D graphics and I really wanted to create a mask. I have noticed that one of the basics shapes in 3D software Blender looks like a disco ball, so instead of trying to reinvent the wheel I used what I was given. Obviously it ended up being much harder than I initially thought.

The idea of a disco bunny was inspired yet again by music videos. I had a YouTube in the background while working on the previous filter and was watching something like best music videos playlists etc. 3 videos appeared in the row Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman , Lady Gaga - Poker Face and Moloko - Sing it Back. Take the Ariana's fetish bunny mask, mix it with glass mask from Lady Gaga and add in the disco ball reflections of Roisin Murphy dress in Sign it Back and you got a disco bunny.

This filter is avaible as Instagram AR effect and Snapchat lens.

This intagram filter ended up being created by accident really. I have a half ready black and white effect and I was looking into making the background more exciting and I ended up with this. I didn't like how those two effects look combined but I really like how the eyes look in this filter, so decided to publish it.

I don’t really know where the inspiration came from, basically, there is so much neon / UV light art out there, so it a combination of all of them. There are a few very good similar filters out there already from @piotar_boa, @tokyyto and @rbkavin.

I wanted to create something that would be an actual face mask. Luckily enough it is also a carnival, so I decided to combine those two and create a Venetian style carnival mask. Somehow ended up looking a bit like the lion king musical prop, not sure why. I think the detail is in feathers.

The inspiration for this mask came straight from Carnival of Venice. Moving feathers, golden mask and porcelain underneath. The mask itself is created with Physically-Based shaders in Spark AR. I have created first-time normal 3D textures to give the metal parts some coarseness. But the biggest part of this project was the feathers. It is literally first ever assets I made in 3D and I also learnt how to rig it with the bones. All of it thanks to Blender Guru YouTube tutorials and some scripts I found on Spark AR Website.

The inspiration came from Natalie Imbruglia's music video "Smoke". One of the most graphically advanced videos in the 90s. I was planning to create something similar but was keep postponing it for next week. Just before Valentine's Day, I have decided that this is gonna be a good deadline to aim for. And that's the effect of mixing this video and the theme of love with augmented reality.

I have been participating in the evolution of AR in social media from the very beginning over 2 years ago. I started experimenting with AR when I discovered AR Studio, the predecessor of Spark AR, during summer 2017.

Since then I was working with Facebook AR Studio while working as a creative technologist in a social media agency in London. During this time I created Facebook AR filters for André Rieu, Thomas Cook, RS Components, Maddox Gallery and others. Working with account managers and designers allowed me to learn how AR can fit in overall social media strategy and how to reach clients KPIs.

In May 2019, I decided to quit my job to pursue a career as a freelance AR creator. Since then I designed and developed Instagram filters for brands like Snickers, Greggs, Flight Centre, Tiesto, Superdrug and others.

I was invited by Facebook to participate in the 2018 AR Studio and 2019 Spark AR Hackathons in London. And on Decemeber 2018 I have partcipated in beta of Spark AR for Instagram. Now I continue the relationship with Instagram and Facebook as a member of Spark AR beta program, this means I know what new features are coming for Instagram Filters and I have time to experiment with them before they are realised to the public.

I strongly believe AR is not just a gimmick. It’s a technology which will change and revolutionize our perception of the world. Tech giants like Apple, Facebook on Google are investing billions into wearable AR devices, which will be the begging of the end of mobiles. If we think about the way we consume media right now by starring into a small box in our hand is really unnatural and AR glasses will finally allow us to straight up, stop looking down and look ahead.

I approach Social augmented reality like any other form of digital marketing. To create a successful branded AR filter it needs to be a part of a cohesive digital campaign.
